Brief
Infection prevention and control and antimicrobial stewardship are two sides of the same coin, and this guide teaches them together. It provides a complete regional curriculum — competencies, session plans, facilitator notes and assessment tools — for health-worker training in IPC and AMR across the MPA countries. Recognising that a single curriculum cannot fit eleven health systems unchanged, it is paired with a country-adaptation toolkit that shows teams exactly which elements are fixed regional standards and which may be localised, so that adaptation strengthens ownership without breaking comparability. The guide has already been adapted in Kenya and is the reference for the regional AMS/IPC/AMR continuous-quality-improvement framework. It links directly to the learning centre's online modules and to the hospital-acquired-infection training-of-trainers package.
Integrated competencies
IPC and antimicrobial stewardship are taught as one competency set because the same facility behaviours drive both infection transmission and resistance.
Fixed vs. adaptable
The adaptation toolkit colour-codes each curriculum element as a fixed regional standard or a locally adaptable component, protecting comparability while enabling ownership.
CQI linkage
The curriculum feeds the regional continuous-quality-improvement framework, so training translates into measured facility-level improvement rather than certificates alone.
