Brief
Most antimicrobials are used outside human medicine, so a credible response to resistance must reach the animal-health sector. This guide extends the region's antimicrobial-stewardship work into veterinary and livestock settings under a One Health frame. It provides prescribing and use standards for animal health, surveillance of antimicrobial use and resistance across the human-animal-environment interface, and a coordination model that links ministries of health, agriculture and environment. Developed with the regional AMS workstream, it is designed to be implemented alongside the human-health IPC-AMR curriculum so that a country builds one coherent stewardship programme rather than two siloed ones. Practical tools include a farm-level use record, a resistance-reporting template and a multisectoral coordination terms-of-reference.

Resistance crosses the human-animal-environment interface, so stewardship confined to hospitals cannot succeed; the guide addresses the animal-health contribution directly.
